Does Tea Prevent People From Being Obese - The Truths and Falsehoods About Tea

For centuries now, the people of China, India, Japan and many other nations have known about the number of health benefits presented by drinking tea. Only recently has America discovered these benefits of tea drinking as well. Part of the reason for this discovery has to do the country's newfound approach for choosing healthier food items and changing their eating habits to avoid obesity. Green tea is the variety of tea that has seen the biggest explosion of popularity from this new mindset and it has led to the beverage being found pre-bottled, ready to buy and consume right off the store shelves.

Some people may drink tea because they simply like the taste. Others, however, may not be so crazy about the taste but drink it only because of some health benefit they will get in return. One of the most popular claims people have likely heard about drinking tea is that it can help you with weight loss. Unlike many other health claims made a plethora of many different products these days, that claim is actually true. Now, if you consume a hefty amount of calories in a day, then drink some green tea, it is not going to just erase all of the food you have consumed. It is not some kind of magic bullet that works wonders to end obesity in one day.

There are a couple of different reasons for why green tea works to help someone with obesity. One way that tea works to help with weight loss is by increasing the body's metabolism. Scientific research has been conducted to help prove that a tea extract can help increase the amount of energy output by as much as 4 percent. The reason behind this increase in energy output is due to the catechin polyphenols that are found inside the tea. This process works to strengthen the system where fat is oxidized, which allows the body to burn off calories much faster.

Another reason that green tea can help aid in weight loss is due to the way glucose is handled in the body. The catechins that increase metabolism are also responsible for keeping glucose from getting into the fat cells. It accomplished this by keeping the insulin levels from spiking, which is what causes fat to be stored. While tea is certainly no wonder drug that is going to magically end your obesity overnight, it can work to help you lose some weight, but you also have to take the initiative and do some work of your own.
