I was going to buy just the average low cost grinder. I saw this one for a few dollars more and said what the heck. It was not a bad choice. So far after a few weeks it works great. The entire grinding chamber comes off making it easy to dump the coffee into the coffee maker. The self cleaning feature is helpful but does not eliminate regular manual cleaning. As long as it lasts I would buy another.

This grinder tries to do a bunch of fancy stuff - i.e., time how long to grind your coffee. But if you can't determine this by sound alone - you haven't ground much coffee.
It has a bunch of plastic parts that make up the bowl. There's the button piece which sits within a lid on a plastic hinge (that will soon break I'm sure). This is attached to the top part that makes the "chambermaid" that consists of some thin plastic pieces that will soon break. All of this comes apart at unexpected times from the lower part of the bowl, which is also plastic.

The bowl is very big and the lid is cumbersome, so it's hard to get the grounds to pour into my espresso machines holder. Mostly I end up with grounds all over the place. The chamber maid just traps grounds inside the bowl. Also the chambermaid and the odd lid prevent me from using a scoop to get the grounds out.

To be fair, this might work great for a large coffee maker and if you only use the medium or coarse grind settings - but I still hate all of the plastic parts.

I much prefer a simple grinder with a lid that sits into a metal grinder. But if you like doodads, have a big filter bowl, and want the grinder to figure out how long to grind, this one would be fine.

If you're making espresso, skip it.

We purchased this grinder perhaps three months ago, and it works GREAT! It allows you to get just the grind you want, and just the amount you want, and you can take the chamber off the motor to clean it in the dishwasher, etc. It's really nice.

For three months, that is. Last week, while grinding for 8 cups of coffee, there was a CRACK! and then the motor was running with no load. When I looked inside the chamber, one of the three "arms" of the Chamber Maid system had broken off. I took the chamber off the motor and found the gear underneath the chamber was broken in half.

I guess three months for $25 is about right, but we have replaced it with a Bodium Burr grinder.

I've been using this coffee grinder for 2 years now and can say I'm happy with it. It does a fine job making drip and coarse grinds for the once-every-other-day or so coffee drinker.

The chamber maid system works by rotating the three plastic side arms on the inside, scraping the side of the chamber off. I usually just rotate the top of the lid back and forth a few times, which works well enough.

The entire grind chamber's diameter is also slightly smaller than the diameter of my french press, so it's even easier to pour the grinds into the press. I simply remove the lid of the grinder, tilt the the french press and invert the grinder, pouring the grinds into press with no mess.

I've also always hand washed it, considering the blade blocks alot of the inside. As a result, I usually clean it out every 2-3 grinds and the inside of the ginder still looks brand new.

While it will not have the uniformity of a disc grinder, I've rarely had any problems with the coarse setting and my french press(8 cups, but I rarely drink the full amount). I set it to 6 cups and coarse setting, letting it run it's full cycle. The last half-cup may have a "residue" taste but I usually leave a little for just that reason.

If you want to try and see how much better freshly ground coffee is, try this machine out now. You won't regret it.
